The Uniqueness of Jill Greenberg

Photographer Jill Greenberg has developed a style that is often imitated and described by some as hyper real. Being a bit of a lighting nut, the forums I follow have spilled much discussion reverse engineering her ringflash-based portraiture. This clip shows a little behind the scenes footage of her set-ups and though process while working with various animals including her “Monkey Portraits” series.

Max Vadukul and The Police

Frequent Rolling Stone cover shooter Max Vadukul got the call to shoot the cover and inside images for the fairly recent issue featuring The Police as they geared up for their first tour in 20 years. Check out this behind the scenes look at the shoot.

Dove Evolution : Real Beauty

Time and again I find that I have to take my advanced Photoshop skills to task in order to fix the scabbed chin of a toddler, eczema on an infant, or to make a composite of the one frame out of 200 that a child was actually looking at the camera.

There has been a long-runny debate about the ethical implications of misrepresenting reality. While manipulating photos in the news and photojournalism world is strictly taboo, photo retouching gurus like Glenn Feron take the practice to an extreme degree. This guy could even make me look like I’m 30 pounds lighter, possess perfect skin and look fifteen percent smarter.

Concern with the distorted image of beauty that young girls are being bombarded with on a daily basis, Dove has launched a campaign that includes this video clip showing the evolution of a photo shoot from grunged-out model showing up for hair and make-up, through the retouching process all the way to a giant billboard. You will never look at reality the same way again.
