When my wife Sasha and I were getting married we had so many questions… You probably do too. Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions:
Where is your pricing information?
Please reach us via the contact form. Commissions are quoted based on the information you provide… Please be forthcoming. We very much look forward to hearing from you.
How many weddings do you shoot each year?
A select few usually totaling less than 15.
What is your photography style? Photojournalism? Experiential?
The majority of the photography on your wedding day will be considered wedding photojournalism, or documentary photography – Capturing things as they unfold with no interference by the photographer while focusing on collecting images that tell a story.
When working with the couple, the wedding party and family formals, the emphasis shifts to more of an casual portrait approach – Placing subject(s) in a beautiful environment with the direction to be natural, or act in a manner than inspires or connects them with subtle direction from the photographer.
How many images do we receive from our wedding?
It depends on the length of the day, the number of locations involved and the number of your guests, but you can expect between 400 and 800 thoughtfully selected and artistically finished images.
When will we get our photos?
Due to the care that each image from every wedding receives, you will have your images presented to you no longer than 3 months after your event.
What file type do you photograph in? RAW or JPEG?
All images are shot in the RAW format, developed and optimized, and presented in JPEG format.
Do you bring assistants to your wedding?
An assistant that shoots during the ceremony and the cocktail hour is included in all coverage. Additional personnel is included when commissioning the LIGHTING BOOTH or when added a la carte for exceptionally large weddings or those with complicated logistics.
Film or digital?
Both actually. I’ve been incorporating medium format film shot with Contax 645, Hasselblad 500c/m and Holga cameras into my engagement sessions and wedding coverage. The film looks fantastic and I love it. Digital is the best tool for the majority of what I do and I love it too.
How much do you charge and what do we get?
Wedding commissions begin at $3,250 for base coverage and files with most couples nicely rounding out their collection to the tune of $5,500 for expanded coverage and one of our signature albums. The base commission is 7 hours of continuous coverage by yours truly accompanied by a trusted, affable and talented sidekick… A Clyde to my Bonnie, a Smith to my Wesson, a Butch to my Sundance. You get the drift.
There are no limits on the number of images captured or locations covered. A final edit will range between 400-800 images and will be delivered no later than 3 months after your wedding date. Each image is hand touched with treatments ranging from compositional cropping to dodging and burning to black & white conversions. All images receive a generous sprinkling of fairy dust.
An online proof gallery containing all your images will be available worldwide 24/7/365 for viewing and ordering by you, your guests, your loved ones and the NSA. Images sized at 900 pixels on the long edge at 72 dpi (web resolution) are available for all to download at no cost. Artisan prints, a range of heirloom albums and wall collections are all available a la carte to meet your individual needs.
Do you have experience with families that have special needs?
Yes. Whether a non-amicable divorce between parents, your teenage kids from a previous marriage, health concerns such as wheelchairs and oxygen tanks, language barriers and more, we’ve previously handled these situations with grace and aplomb.
May we have or purchase the RAW files?
Do you bring back-up equipment?
Hecks yes! We bring two pro camera bodies and assortment of lenses and flashes to every wedding with an additional kit consisting of body + lens + light in the trunk of my car that I can cover an entire wedding with.
You are based in Seattle… Would you travel to be our wedding photographer?
My passport is up to date and travel is the reigning #1 passion after my family and photography. Weddings in Miami, Chicago, Boston, Yosemite, Merced, Malibu, Cuernavaca, Buffalo and more keep me at MVP status… Just where I like it. I handle all travel bookings and do so at cost with no mark-up.
How long have you been a photographer? Did you go to school?
I’ve been shooting for about 7 years. I picked up a camera when my daughter was born. I’m self taught in parenthood and photography.
How do we reserve you for our wedding?
It’s easy. Tell me about you and what you’re after. If we all fit together nicely a digitally signed contract and $1,500 retainer seal the deal.
Do you take credit cards?
Yes. Cash, check, Paypal and bank transfer are all in our wheelhouse.
When will I receive my wedding images?
I like to book a viewing session within 3 months of your wedding to meet and have your minds blown and hearts melted. I hear the postman always rings twice if you’re not in the Seattle metro area.
Do you offer albums?
Of course. Albums are our favorite and such an incomparable way to share your story with friends, family and generations to come. We are human… Touch is so important.
What do I do about all the people that want to see the pictures or get some?
It’s up to you and what is applicable, but there will be a shareable online slideshow, blog post, Facebook gallery and an online sales cart. Visit http://proofs.kipbeelmanphotography.com to get the feel for what your event will look like online.
